:: EVENTS PLANNED FOR 2007 EARTH DAY CELEBRATION

Clinton County's 2nd Annual Earth Day celebration begins on Saturday, April 21, 2007 and continues through Friday, April 27, 2007 and there are events scheduled throughout the week to spark an interest in both children and adults alike.

COSI on Wheels, What's Wild will arrive at Southern State Community College on Saturday, April 21at 10:00 AM. This traveling outreach program of COSI Columbus will provide hand-on activities for children pertaining to Ohio's wildlife and their habitats. The session will begin with a general 45-minute presentation from COSI and then children are welcome to visit the 10 educational stations and explore bird banding, fish identification, insect study under microscopes and feel wildlife pelts. The session ends at noon.

Many of Clinton County's conser vation organizations will have informational displays on site and will be available to answer questions on the programs they offer to protect our county's natural resources.

The 2nd Annual Earth Day Dinner and Silent Auction begins at 6:30 PM on Saturday, April 21 at the Faith Lutheran Church at 421 E. Vine Street. Come joinothers for an evening of fun and celebration. Eric Partee,Executive Director of the Little Miami, Inc. will be theguest speaker and his topic is “40 Years of RiverConservation Success-the Little Miami, Inc. Story”.Tickets are $15 for adults and for children 10 and under,the cost is $1 for each year of age. Call Laura Curliss(382-7701) or Chris Hodgson (289-3449) for purchasing tickets.

All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit: Clinton County Open Lands, Clinton Streamkeepers, and Clinton County Rails-to-Trails.

A tour of East Fork Riparian Nature Preserve is scheduled for Sunday, April 22 at 1:30 PM. Meet at the Wilmington City back parking lot and participants will carpool to the county's newest park, located in the southern tip of Clark Township. If you wish to meet at the park, call Laura Curliss at 382-7701 for directions.

The slide presentation, An Inconvenient Truth, will be given on April 22 and April 23 by an official representative of The Climate Project, a non-profit group of volunteers who present the information delivered in the movie, An Inconvenient Truth. Both presentations begin at 7:30 PM on the Wilmington College campus, McCoy Room, Kelly Center, on South
College Street.

Jeff Eschmeyer, from the Ohio Farmers Union, is the guest speaker on Carbon Credits for Agriculture on Wednesday, April 25 at Kelly Hall on the Wilmington College campus. His presentation will address how the carbon credit program works and its potential economic benefits to Clinton County farmers. The presentation begins at 7:00 PM and a question and answer period will follow. Refreshments will be served.

If Sprawl Meant Jobs, Ohio Would Have Full Employment will be the topic for Thursday, April 26when Gene Krebs, State Director of Greater Ohioattends a luncheon at the General Denver Hotel, 81 W.Main Street in Wilmington from 12:00 to 1:30 PM.Greater Ohio is a non-profit organization that addressesfarmland preservation through urban renewal Luncheon cost is $12 per person and payable at the door. Reservations can be made by phoning the GeneralDenver at 383-4141 by Monday April 23.

The 2007 Earth Day celebration concludes on Arbor Day, Friday April 27 with a tour of the Frank Hazard Arboretum at 4:00 PM. The arboretum is home of hundreds of species of trees and plants, many of which, can be planted in your yard. The arboretum is located on the Wilmington College campus, east of the YMCA. Professor Fred Anliot, Director, will lead the tour and meet in the YMCA parking lot.

Unless specified, all events are free-of-charge and all are open to the public.

The organizations and institutions sponsoring the 2nd Annual Earth Day Celebration are: Wilmington College, Southern State Community College, Clinton Streamkeepers, Clinton County Open Lands, Clinton County Rails-to-Trails and the Lytle Creek League of Conservators.



Upcoming Events:

StreamKeepers/CCEPA meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month (except July, September and December) in the Community Room of Friendly Center at 7:00 p.m.
